Back Up In New York
I went to the doctor to get checked out today. What a waste of money, as the visit had no value whatsoever and just made him $380 richer. That being said, after my visit, I immediately booked a ticket back to NY and leave SRQ at 6:40 and get in LGA at 11:18 tonight.
It will be nice to see my friend, that’s for sure.

I’m becoming convinced that the entire health care system is just a huge gravy train for the medical profession in which conditions and cures thereof are just product lines. So you must be in REALLY good health for him not to be able to find something.

Jeff, Your doctor obviously is approaching his practice as a business, rather than as a calling. Nevertheless, you did have a CT (bill to follow, I assume), which apparently is encouraging enough to avoid ankle surgery. You seem to be having a series of physical mishaps in the past year or so–a sign that you’re not getting any younger, and the old surfing bod may be wearing out. Get some good footwear for those long walks on cement Manhatten sidewalks, and enjoy the fireworks! Russell

The visit was a follow up from when he scoped out my ankle, which was minor surgery. He recommends rehab, at a clinic he happens to own. I think I’ll work out my ankle on my own and save the money.

I am having a series of mishaps, which is indeed a sign of the body wearing out. That being said, I’d rather continue doing what I’m doing and take an occasional hit rather than being a couch potato. I’m not ready to give up surfing or skateboarding, for that matter. If I had to give up surfing, I’d probably die. The fireworks over the Hudson were magnificent last night. The party we had was wonderful, and we were on the 10th floor overlooking the Hudson and had a great view of the fireworks. I felt sorry for the Jersey side which had their own fireworks display, which paled compared to the NY show.

If you want cost effective rehab then I’d recommend finding a Zhan Zhuang teacher in NYC – there should be one. This has done miracles for my health and even my shattered left ankle (injured some 10 years ago) seems to be getting more mobility.
